Ebonyi police look into a widely circulated video showing cops abusing men.
The command’s acting public relations officer, DSP Joshua Ukandu, made a statement on Sunday announcing the start of an investigation into the event and threatening to discipline any officers discovered to have been engaged.
The statement said, “A social media video that went viral has brought the command’s notice to some police officers’ disrespectful behavior.
“To ensure justice and appropriate disciplinary action, a thorough investigation into the incident has begun, and necessary administrative measures have already been initiated. The command categorically condemns their unprofessional conduct.”
CP Augustina Ogbodo, the Commissioner of Police in Ebonyi State Police Command, is utilizing this platform to reaffirm that she will not accept any misconduct by police officers or acts of incivility toward members of the public while she is in charge.
“She went on to urge the people of the state to maintain composure and follow the law, promising that any police officer who disobeyed would face harsh disciplinary action.”
ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Nigerian Police Force’s public relations officer, had earlier on Sunday denounced a video that went viral and showed an Edo State Police Command officer abusing a woman at the Ekpoma Divisional Police Headquarters.
Adejobi commented, “I have said it several times that policemen are not trained to slap, use horse whips, or stick to flog people,” in response to the video on X.
“Even though it’s required of police officers to use minimum force while on duty, they have the tools and equipment needed to do so in accordance with our laws.”
