Ebonyi legislator leaves PDP to join APC
On Monday, Hon. Victor Chidi Nwoke, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, announced his defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Nwoke represents the Abakaliki North Constituency.

The member cited ongoing and irreconcilable conflicts affecting the PDP both at the state and national levels. The lawmaker defected during the launching of the local Government Committee of BERWO, the governor’s wife’s pet project.
The state governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Nwifuru, is credited with the legislator’s decision to join the APC, citing his leadership abilities and accomplishments, particularly with regard to the People’s Charter of Needs.
There is a lot of unrest inside the party as a result of the dispute between Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the party’s presidential candidate in the general elections of 2023, and Nyesom Wike, the former governor of Rivers State and current minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
“The party has had a severe leadership crisis to the point where it has split the organization into opposing factions and hindered efforts to remove the National Chairman, who is thought to be a stooge of the FCT minister.
“Even as it struggles with its own micro crisis, the leadership contest between Wike and Atiku has seen an unparalleled loss of members to other political parties.
“Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, the governor of Ebonyi State, is a model of perfection because of his leadership skills, which are based on the People’s Charter of Needs,” he remarked.
One of his ardent followers, Mr. Innocent Oriji, the Chairman of the Labour Party for Abakaliki Local Government, joined the congressman in defecting.
The previous head of the Abakaliki Legislative Council, Hon. Emmanuel Nwandegu, together with thousands of his fervent fans, are among the other defectors.
The congressman has finally arrived in the house he rightfully belongs in, according to Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, the APC’s state chairman, who greeted the lawmaker and his supporters into the party.
Emegha promised the congressman he would be taken along in the grand scheme of things and guaranteed a level playing field.
On behalf of the State governor, the Honourable Member and his supporters were greeted by Mrs. Mary-Maudline Uzoamaka Nwifuru, the wife of the governor, who also gave them assurances of complete inclusivity.
