Ebonyi’s Peoples Democratic Party has threatened to challenge the ruling that confirmed Francis Nwifuru as the state’s new governor.
The party also called on its supporters in the state to remain peaceful as it appealed the court’s decision, promising to restore its mandates.
Immediately upon the delivery of the verdict, Ifeanyi Nworie, the Deputy Chairman of the party in the state, made the announcement to the press.
The judge’s decision has left us disappointed,” he remarked. The party has been persuaded and plans to appeal. Thankfully, the tribunal agreed to allow a trial and appeal on the membership/defection question. We urge everyone to maintain their composure. It’s not always the case that justice is lost because of a delay.
Ifeanyi Idoko, the lawyer for the PDP candidate for governor, said his client would appeal the ruling.
He went on to say that they were especially unhappy with the tribunal’s decision on Francis Nwifuru’s APC membership.
Idoko remarked, “This is just the beginning; we still have the court of appeal.” We want to challenge this ruling in an appellate court. The verdict does not meet our expectations. Concerning his membership, we are especially dissatisfied. We filed our complaint under Constitutional Clause 177. The question of eligibility arises both before and after an election. At the appeal, we plan to put that to the test. We would note other issues for which to file an appeal as soon as we received the decision.
