Otti to Abia NLC: Assist us in locating people who are paying themselves excessive wages
The Nigeria Labour Congress, or NLC, has been entrusted by Abia State Governor Alex Otti to assist in identifying individuals who are ghost workers in the state civil service and those who inflate their salaries on government payrolls.

Otti, who made an appeal while welcoming the NLC state council, pointed out that there are still dishonest persons in the system who continue to pad salaries and indulge in other vices. Otti requested the NLC to assist in identifying these individuals who are embezzling money from the government.
The governor claimed that in addition to restoring businesses that fled the state because of deteriorating infrastructure, he has been fostering an environment that allows citizens to survive.
“A lot of people are receiving salary but are not showing up for work,” he stated. I’m putting it out there for NLC to assist us; these ghost workers are robbing you blind. You have to accept responsibility for it.
“My administration is focused on creating an environment that is favorable for every Abian to survive and bringing back all companies that left the state due to infrastructural decay, rather than sharing money as was the case in the past.”
The governor promised that his administration is investigating the N35,000 salary award that the federal government authorized for workers to put into effect.
Earlier, Ogbonnaya Okoro, the state chairman of the NLC, urged the governor to take into consideration enacting the N35,000 wage bill approved by the federal government for workers, address the haughtiness of some government appointees against civil servants, and settle salary arrears of between three and thirty months owed to different categories of workers by previous administrations.
Along with other issues, he brought the governor’s attention to the verification of workers’ issues, which have prevented some workers from receiving their salaries for almost seven months, and the alleged mistreatment of workers by Valumbra Flour factories in Aba.
He also praised Otti for honoring his commitment to pay Abia employees on the 28th of each month.
