The Abia PDP called the purported new verification “not only punitive but also primitive,” adding that “it unnecessarily subjects the hard-working employees of Abia State to undue stress and uncertainty,” in a statement signed by Elder Abraham Amah, the party’s vice chairman.

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) expressed its dismay at the ongoing imposition of laborious verification exercises on the hardworking labor force of Abia State, citing concerns about the potential detrimental effects on the workers and their families.

According to the PDP, “the regularity of these exercises raises serious questions about the motivations behind such actions and the lack of regard for the workers’ well-being.”

Therefore, the Abia PDP demanded that the relevant authorities “engage in transparent dialogue with the workers’ representatives to address any legitimate concerns or issues and to immediately halt any further attempts to subject the workers to additional verification exercises.”

The Nigeria Labour Congress’s branch in Abia State had expressed concern and opposition to the planned verification in a statement on Saturday.

According to the NLC, the workers’ paychecks were withheld as a result of the many verifications.

The Nigeria Labour Congress Abia State Council said in a statement, “The office of the Head of Service of Abia State has sent out a Government Public Service Announcement directing the state civil and public servants in ministries, departments, agencies, and the seventeen local government councils to go online and upload their documents with effect from May 10, 2024 to May 31, 2024.

The state council of Congress is curious about the outcome of the state’s first verification process, as several employees are still awaiting certification and have had their paychecks withheld by the government for more than seven months.

Following a rigorous examination of the aforementioned Government Public Service Announcement, the State Executive Council of the Congress, rising from its emergency meeting today, Saturday, May 11, 2024, determined as follows:

That Labour sees this effort as going back to the governor’s previous plan to remove phantom workers from the system.

Given the financial struggles employees face due to their low pay, it is anti-worker that there will be another verification exercise a few months after the first one.
