Abia Assembly will review the plan for the relocation of Poly while investigating two sewage disposal companies.
Today’s meeting of the Abia State House of Assembly focused on urgent matters, such as infrastructure for education and environmental concerns.
In a motion, Hon. Chijioke Uruakpa (Ugwunagbo) expressed concern over the operations of waste management businesses and the growth of illicit sewage dumping sites. He singled out So Safe Convenience and RIKEZ Sewage Disposal Company for their behaviors that endanger public health.
The House accepted his proposals for a review of the firms’ operating licenses, possible legislation on appropriate disposal of sewage, and an immediate probe of these corporations.
Governor Dr. Alex Otti’s establishment of a State Security Advisory Council was applauded by Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Augustin Okezie, who also noted that the council might help strengthen Abia’s security posture.
Legislators also took into account the idea to move Abia State Polytechnic from Aba to Osisioma.
Improved safety features at the current site, the building of hostels and other amenities at the new campus, and increased finance and income production for the university are just a few of the measures recommended in a report submitted by the House Committee on Education to facilitate the transition. The House decided to provide the Executive these suggestions so they may be put into practice.
The first reading of H.A.B. 14, “The Abia State Procedure For Disclosure Of Public Information Bill, 2024,” introduced by Hon. Okoro Uchenna Kalu, was also adopted by the Assembly.
