The meeting between the Federal Government and the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, has been described in greater detail.
Monday’s meeting ended in a stalemate.
The Minister of Labor and Employment, Simon Lalong, convened the meeting at which none of the Union’s concerns were addressed.
However, the minister was optimistic that the Nigerian employees’ concerns would be addressed.
He stated that the FG would address the issues prior to the deadline.
“We must also acknowledge the economic realities we face.
“As we address the concerns of our workforce, we must strike a balance that promotes economic development and ensures the nation’s continued progress.
“Today, I am calling on all of you to engage in an open-minded and constructive dialogue, which will allow us to bridge any gaps that may exist between the interests of workers and the ultimate objective of driving economic progress,” he said.
Ajaero, president of the NLC, stated, “In the ultimatum we issued and the NEC resolution, the issue of NURTW was explicitly stated, and at the time, it had not degenerated to the extent that it has now. Because of this, we had to carry it along.
“On the other issues, it is evident that no agreement was reached, as there is no CNG anywhere and neither refineries nor gas are operating.
“No action has been taken regarding wage award and financial transfer, as well as ASUU issues. However, we anticipate that something will occur within the next few days, when the ultimatum expires.”
Ajaero said there was no turning back on the planned indefinite strike if no progress was made before the expiration of the union’s ultimatum.
