Abia Lawmakers Decamp To Labour Party, Meet With Governor Otti
Two legislators from Abia State who were previously members of the Young People’s Party (YPP) are now officially members of the Labour Party: Hon. Fyne Ahuama Onyekachi (Osisioma Ngwa South) and Hon. Nwogu Iheanacho (Osisioma Ngwa North). Governor Dr. Alex Otti greeted them on Tuesday night.
Notwithstanding their prior political allegiance, Governor Otti expressed gratitude for their support of his administration. By appointing a non-Abian as Permanent Secretary, he demonstrated his dedication to open and honest governance. He promised that everyone in the Labour Party will be treated equally.
I have given the House of Assembly members my word that we will never approach you with anything improper since we operate under a transparent leadership style. Since we labor for our people, we have nothing to conceal.
“Like I told them in Rivers State (where he commissioned a road project), stewardship is the essence of governance, and I am happy because my people are happy,” Governor Otti remarked. “When you are governing people and they are not happy, there is something wrong with the leadership.”
Governor Otti emphasized the inclusiveness of the Labour Party and asked the legislators to persuade more Osisioma residents to join by assuring them of equal opportunities for all. He complimented them on their choice and made a suggestion that they would soon be welcome the YPP governorship candidate.
On behalf of our fantastic party, let me extend a warm greeting to you. I want you to know that you are going to think back on this move as one of your best ones.
You will enjoy the same privileges as any other member of our party; there is nothing special about our party for new or old members. You’ve come to the proper place because the Labour Party offers everyone a level playing field,” the governor told them.
The decampees were introduced by House Leader Hon. Uchenna Okoro, who credited Governor Otti’s people-focused leadership for their choice.
The newly formed Labour Party members gave the revived Geometric Power project and the newly opened Osisioma-Ekeakpara Road as justifications for their defection. Alongside the Governor, they conveyed their intention to strengthen democracy at the local level.
