Alleged Olokoro Crime Kingpin Arraigned at the High Court in Umuahia

At Umuahia, the capital of Abia State, a High Court on Tuesday arraigned Promise Ikechukwu Ogbonna, an Okwu Olokoro resident, on four counts.

Armed robbery in violation of Section 6 and Armed Robbery in violation of Section 1(2)(a) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provision) are the main offenses related to conspiracy.

The fees further comprised: Section 320(a) of the Criminal Code prohibits attempted murder, while section 451(5)(g) prohibits malicious damage.

In his Tuesday appearance before the Umuahia High Court, Promise Ikechukwu Ogbonna entered a not guilty plea to the four counts brought against him.

Justice K.C.J. Okereke, the presiding judge, rejected the defense attorney’s request for the defendant’s client to be granted bail. In order to provide more witnesses with an opportunity to testify, he postponed the issue to March 26, 2024.

After Promise Ikechukwu Ogbonna and his gang are accused of shooting Chinasa Ogbonna’s brother, she addressed journalists and labeled Ogbonna as a threat to Olokoro Community, Abia, and Nigeria in general.

He said that it is regrettable that individuals such as renowned cultist Promise Ikechukwu Ogbonna are free to roam around. He revealed that he has responded to several incidents involving armed robbery and cultism, among other things, and claimed to have received multiple protections from security services.

Promise Ikechukwu Ogbonna’s earlier misadventures were recounted by Mr. Ogbonna, who also noted that despite being detained by the police, his employers are making a concerted effort to gain his release. He said that he uses his gangs to harass residents in Olokoro Community and reiterated that the Eze in Council had written to the authorities requesting that Promise Ikechukwu Ogbonna remain incarcerated.

He demanded the presentation of evidence from witnesses in Olokoro and elsewhere whom Promise Ikechukwu Ogbonna had offended, saying that such a threat should not be let to prowl the streets of Olokoro, Abia, unhindered.

Ogbonna Nwasinachi Joseph, a major witness and the victim of Promise Ikechukwu Ogbonna’s bully, described how tensions between Promise Ikechukwu Ogbonna and the Olokoro Community led to a police investigation.

Promise, he said. Ikechukwu Ogbonna targeted him specifically for death because in 2021 he had written numerous petitions to the IGP regarding his involvement in cult-related activities and armed robbery. In 2022, he broke into his home and shot him in the chest and throat, emphasizing that his survival was only possible through the special grace of God.

In addition to revealing that Promise Ikechukwu Ogbonna has been terrorizing students at Michael Okpara University (MOUAU) among other nefarious activities, Ogbonna Nwasinachi Joseph prayed to the court to ensure that he receives appropriate punishment for shooting and threatening to kill him.
