A 20-story hotel under construction in Asaba, Delta State, fell on Thursday night, sending eight people to the hospital.
Directly across from Delta Mall, Asaba (Shoprite) lies the multibillion-naira hotel complex.
Chief Gabriel Ogbechie, the millionaire entrepreneur and founder of Rain Oil Group, owns the property.
During the middle of a building project, an eyewitness claims they heard a huge noise.
According to the witness, who gave her name only as “Onyinye Okei,” eight people were hurt and taken to the hospital by their coworkers.
After assessing the structure, State Commissioner for Urban Renewal Mr. Michael Anoka told reporters that a construction flaw was to blame for the event.
After confirming that no one was hurt, Anoka added, “The Ministry is still investigating.” As you can see, the government is acting swiftly, and the compound has been sealed off. We will compile a report detailing the events of today once we have finished our inquiry.
The administration has already begun taking precautions before today’s catastrophe, so everyone should relax. We’re working on a system to prevent future problems like this from occurring.
Authorities from the State Emergency Management Agency and other security personnel have blocked off the area where the event occurred.
