The time for the monthly sanitation exercise in Aba, Umuahia, and Abia State, in general, has been restored to 7:00 am by Governor Alex Otti, according to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, CPS Kazie Uko. The exercise will now take place between 7:00 am and 10:00 am.
Previously, the immediate past Governor Okezie Ikpeazu had shifted the exercise’s original time from 7:00 am to 9:00-11:00 am, which drew criticism. Ikpeazu had stated that the change was to allow residents to avoid unnecessary haste to meet the 7:00 am start time.

Governor Otti restored the original time of the exercise after a meeting with Mr. Ogbonnia Okereke, the Head of the Task Force on Emergency Clean-up of Aba and Umuahia. Okereke briefed the governor on the progress achieved in the three-week-old assignment.
The decision to move the sanitation exercise to an earlier time aims to encourage more people to participate in cleaning their environment before they leave home for the day’s activities, as stated by the governor.

Governor Alex Otti
Governor Alex Otti commended the task force for their outstanding work within the short time since its establishment. He urged the team to engage landlords, market leaders, and other organized groups in Aba and Umuahia to support the objectives of the task force.
Furthermore, the governor directed the task force to expedite their plan to involve private sector participants (PSPs) in the cleaning exercise. This will help ensure the timely completion of the assignment and restore both cities to an acceptable hygienic condition.
