The Centre for Human Rights Advocacy and Wholesome Society (CEHRAWS), a distinguished civil rights group dedicated to promoting the rule of law, respect for human rights, and law enforcement accountability, transparent, responsible, and inclusive policing, has commended the pioneering efforts of Abia State’s Governor, Dr. Alex C. Otti.
This was contained in a press release signed by CEHRAWS Executive Director, Chuka Peter Okoye.
Okoye said: “His strategic collaboration with a renowned private agriculture firm stands as a testament to his commitment to ushering in a new era of sustainable development and economic growth in the state.
“The visionary partnership between the Abia State government and the esteemed private agriculture firm showcases the Governor’s determination to harness the vast potential of the agricultural sector.
“This collaboration not only reinforces his resolve to elevate Abia State’s economic prosperity but also reflects his proactive approach in line with global standards emphasizing the pivotal role of agriculture in driving socio-economic advancement.
“CEHRAWS acknowledges this momentous achievement and seeks to highlight the opportunity for further expanding Abia State’s agricultural productivity.
“As a civil rights group committed to fostering good governance, human rights protection, and an inclusive society, we propose the activation and empowerment of the State Ministry of Agriculture across the 17 local government areas.
“To achieve this transformative vision, CEHRAWS advocates for the initiation of a Private Public Partnership (PPP) agro-business between the state government and the private agriculture firm, along with other relevant stakeholders.
“Our proposal involves cultivating a minimum of 5 hectares of land within each of the aforementioned 17 local government areas, marking a significant step towards sustainable progress.
“This collaborative venture has far-reaching benefits. It not only addresses unemployment and poverty but also bolsters food security and revenue generation within the state.
“By diversifying the agricultural landscape through the integration of advanced techniques and technologies offered by the private agriculture firm, Abia State can position itself as a hub for agricultural innovation and growth.
“Furthermore, CEHRAWS underscores that such an approach aligns with global development objectives, particularly the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“By promoting inclusivity, responsible economic growth, and hunger eradication (SDGs 2 and 8), Abia State demonstrates its commitment to international best practices while making tangible improvements at the local level.
“The proposed PPP model, somehow championed by the Governor’s collaboration, envisions a transfer of knowledge, expertise, and skills, ultimately fostering a sense of community ownership and participation.
“CEHRAWS believes that this initiative will facilitate the alleviation of hunger/poverty and fortify the bond between the government and its citizens, driving forward a more prosperous and harmonious society.”
In conclusion, CEHRAWS commended Governor Otti for his transformative vision of partnering with a reputable private agriculture firm.
It urged the Abia State government to capitalize on this momentum and embrace the proposed suggestion of cultivating substantial land spaces in the 17 local government areas, Abia State can set a precedent for agricultural growth, accountable governance, and the realization of a truly wholesome society.
