Abia Wants To Protect Infrastructure Through The “Dig Once” Policy
The “Dig Once” policy, which sets precise parameters for constructing subterranean internet infrastructure throughout the state, was signed by Abia State Governor Alex Otti. Two main goals of this strategy are to protect the road infrastructure and increase the effectiveness of infrastructure projects throughout Abia.

In Umuahia, Governor Otti underlined the importance of the policy during a ceremony. It expedites the procedure for businesses engaged in cable installation and excavation, reducing needless work and shielding the subsurface infrastructure from harm. Thus, continuous internet services are guaranteed.
“The ‘Dig Once’ policy will prevent internet service disruptions by drastically reducing needless losses resulting from the destruction of underground cables and infrastructure,” Otti said.
This strategy was developed in collaboration with many government agencies, including Works, SMEs, Science & Technology, and Digital Economy. It demonstrates the government’s commitment to optimizing the advantages of high-speed internet and telecommunications.
“We want to make high-speed internet widely available so that smart business practices can be adopted more easily, innovation can be fostered, and access to international markets can be increased,” Otti stated.
He also underlined how the program benefits the young people of Abia, who are actively grabbing digital opportunities.
Governor Otti asked utility, construction, and telecommunications businesses as well as anybody excavating close to a utility corridor to work with the government to make sure the regulation is followed.
