The Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike administration has been tasked by Abia State Governor Dr. Alex Otti with determining the underlying reason of the recent student protest that resulted in the closure of the school in order to avert such disturbances.

During a visit from university administration staff on Tuesday, Otti delivered the accusation.

He pointed out that the younger generation’s future is not well served by this kind of academic deception.

The university administration put an end to classes for good last month after students demonstrated against the increase in tuition.

Nonetheless, in order to facilitate the return of full academic operations, the governor pledged to communicate with the institution’s management and other relevant parties.

“It’s critical that you address the underlying issue. You might not get to the source of the issue if the inquiry panel performs its work poorly, and one way to tackle an issue is to avoid making assumptions. Prejudice like that will make you unreceptive to any other advice.

“I believe the rally got violent, therefore let’s find out why it happened. He remarked, “Let’s conduct a comprehensive investigation to identify the underlying cause and address it there.”

Speaking on the soon-to-be-established Agric Business Incubation Center at the university, Otti instructed the Principal Secretary to the Governor and Professor Monica Ironkwe, the Commissioner for Agriculture, to work with the institution to move forward.

He promised them that the Abia State Internal Revenue Service, which had filed a lawsuit against the university two years prior due to unremitted PAYE, would abandon the case in order to reach an out-of-court settlement.

“There is no way that we as a government would take you to court,” he declared. We are going to investigate it and stop it since it existed before us. It is not logical. I shall give the BIR Chairman the order to end the lawsuit. Nothing is too big for us to sit down and solve.

Additionally, the governor pledged to work with the university and the host communities to address any problems that might be impeding the university’s ability to obtain a Certificate of Occupancy for its property.
