Abia Assembly Demands Immediate Action Against Isuikwuato’s Severe Erosion
The extreme erosion causing environmental deterioration in the Isuikwuato Local Government Area has drawn the attention of the Abia State House of Assembly.

A site examination of the different erosion sites in Isuikwuato was carried out by the Abia State House of Assembly Committee on Environment and Urban Renewal, under the direction of Hon. Kalu Mba Nwoke.
Hon. Lucky Johnson Udoka Nweke, who represents the Isuikwuato State Constituency, made an urgent request that this visit was warranted because he warned that if the erosion is not stopped, the entire LGA may become isolated from the rest of the state.
After examining the locations, the Committee recommended that a state of emergency be proclaimed because of how urgent the situation was. Prior to the start of the intense rains, they underlined the necessity of quick action.
Prior to the inspection, Air Vice Marshall Chinwendu Onyike, the retired mayor of Isuikwuato Local Government Abia, was given a courtesy call by the Committee. In order to win much-needed support for the LGA, the Mayor called attention to the destructive impacts of erosion and encouraged the Committee to take action. He conveyed concerns that if nothing is done right now, things might get worse.
Air Vice Marshall Onyike also expressed gratitude for the Committee’s initiative in resolving the matter.
Numerous erosion sites were identified by the Committee, including Agbo-Nelu Ahaba, Ahaba Ehuma, Eke Amiyi Ahaba, Otamkpa Echiefe, Umuokogbuo-Uporoto-Afonta, Umuokogbuo-Umuobiala, Umudi Amaokwe Amiyi, and Umunnekwu Agbo Oguduasa (which destroyed Central Oguduasa Secondary School).
According to Ndiigboworldwide, erosion has made certain regions nearly uninhabitable, and the local government lacks the resources to deal with the extensive problem.
