Tribunal sacks Abia LP Reps member, Amobi Ogah

In a groundbreaking development, the National Assembly election petition tribunal in Umuahia, Abia State, has made a significant ruling. The tribunal has invalidated the election victory of Hon Amobi Ogah from the Labour Party, LP, and instead declared the current Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkiruka Onyejiocha, as the rightful winner of the Isiukwuato/Umunneochi federal constituency polls. This decision marks a major shift in the political landscape of the region.

In a significant development, the tribunal has made a ruling stating that the rise and subsequent triumph of Ogah in the recent elections failed to adhere to the provisions outlined in the Electoral Act.

In a recent announcement, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially declared Amobi Ogah, the candidate from the Labour Party, as the victor in the Isiukwuato/Umunneochi federal constituency election. According to INEC, Ogah secured a total of 11,769 votes, surpassing his opponent, Onyejiocha, who received 8,752 votes.

In a move driven by dissatisfaction, Onyejeocha has taken the matter to the National Assembly election petition tribunal, as she files a petition seeking the nullification of Ogah’s election result.

In a petition filed by her, a total of seven reliefs were included.

In a momentous ruling on Wednesday in Umuahia, the three-man panel presiding over the petition with the reference EPT/AB/HR/8/2023 delivered their judgement. The panel declared that the emergence of Ogah as the candidate for the Labour Party (LP) failed to meet the requirements outlined in the Electoral Act.

In a recent ruling, it has been stated that the sponsorship of a candidate by a political party is a matter that encompasses both pre and post-election periods. The ruling highlights the absence of any evidence indicating that the respondents provided a 21-day notice to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) prior to conducting their primary election.

In a recent statement, the user highlighted the absence of any specified date for the primaries, as well as the lack of evidence regarding these primaries. The third respondent, on the other hand, consistently maintains that this matter falls within the internal affairs of the Party.

In a recent development, it has been determined that the calculations presented by the petitioner are indeed accurate, while the calculations put forth by the 1st respondent are being disregarded, as per the findings of our tabulation.

In a recent development, it has been argued by Ogah that the decision of Onyejeocha to accept the ministerial appointment is indicative of her abandonment of the petition.

In a stunning turn of events, the tribunal has dismissed the submission made by the lawmaker.

In a recent ruling, the court declared that Section 66 does not apply to the current scenario. The court’s reasoning behind this decision is that the petitioner is not a lawmaker of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. According to the court, the law specifically prohibits individuals from being members of two arms of government.

In a significant development, the tribunal has concurred with the petitioner’s claim that certain electoral units witnessed instances of overvoting, which notably favored Amobi Ogah and his LP party. Furthermore, it has been revealed that the actual votes garnered by the petitioner were not duly declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In a recent development, the tribunal has revealed the revised vote counts for the candidates in question. Following a careful analysis, it has been determined that Onyejiocha’s vote tally stands at 11,976, while Amobi Ogah’s count amounts to 9,736. These figures have been adjusted after accounting for the alleged inflated numbers initially reported.

In a notable familial connection, Amobi Ogah has emerged as the younger sibling of Uche Ogah, a distinguished figure who previously held the position of Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development.
