NLC To supports Governor Otti’s civil service reform, supports smooth verification process.

The Abia state chapter of the Nigerian Labour Congress has officially expressed its endorsement of the Governor Alex Otti led-government.

This endorsement is in relation to the current workers verification exercise and other ongoing reforms implemented by the government. The objective of these reforms is to establish a robust and efficient civil service that will ultimately benefit all citizens.

A press release was issued in Umuahia, signed by both the state Chairman and the state secretary, and made available to the press. The National Labour Congress (NLC) expressed their appreciation to the Governor for displaying dedication towards revitalising the Civil Service.

They particularly commended the Governor for his commitment to resolving the outstanding salary and pension arrears by the end of the year.

The aforementioned statement highlights the dedication of His Excellency Dr. Alex Otti towards the revitalization of the Abia Civil Service and the improvement of the well-being of its employees and pensioners. Dr. Otti has expressed his assurance that these objectives will be successfully accomplished by the conclusion of the current year.

The NLC has expressed concern regarding the invitation of multiple MDAs to appear for verification on the same day. They believe that this situation has caused unnecessary difficulties and frustration for the workers. The NLC appeals for a reduction in the number of MDAs invited on the same day.

The Labour Union has requested the government to extend the deadline for the verification exercise. Additionally, they have appealed for the MDAs to appear on separate days to prevent unnecessary hardship for the workers.

The Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, reaffirmed his commitment to resolving the long-standing issue of unpaid salaries and pensions owed to Abia workers and pensioners during his inauguration.

He emphasised that these arrears would be cleared by December 31, 2023. Furthermore, he instructed the implementation of verification processes and reforms to ensure that legitimate workers are not unfairly affected.
