In the Ukwa East Local Government of Abia State, an illegal bunkering facility was demolished by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

NSCDC operatives

According to a statement released on Wednesday and signed by Babawale Afolabi, the NSCDC spokesperson, the agents apprehended 9,000 liters of automotive gas oil from oil thieves in the state.

According to Afolabi, the operations were carried out by the Special Intelligence Squad of the Commandant General as part of a fresh offensive against the actions of economic saboteurs.

The NSCDC crew demolished a loading point, a big local pour-put boat used to transport locally refined petroleum products, and the illegal bunkering facility.

He clarified that the squad learned about oil bunkering operations in Inhandu/Ikwariator Riverside, Ukwa East Council region, through reliable intelligence. He said that there was continuous loading and transporting of automotive gas oil hidden in cellophane bags in the region.

“The team quickly moved to uncover a bunkering site where long-term local petroleum product refining had been taking place,” he claimed.

He disclosed that the individuals engaged in the illicit operations fled upon spotting the NSCDC agents.

“The Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad has demolished an illegal oil bunkering site, a large local Pour-put Boat for conveying locally refined petroleum products, a loading point, and automotive gas oil amounting to 9,000 liters at Inhandu Community of Ukwa East Local Government Area in Abia State in its determination to rescue the nation from economic saboteurs.”

As we toured the facility, we noticed that some of the AGO bags were placed onto three separate vans and prepared for delivery, while others were packed in an incomplete structure.

“Two Fiber Boats with 40 Horse Power Yamaha Engines, two empty J5 Buses and one Sequoia Jeep ready to be loaded, two sizable wooden boats still in the construction stage, and some quantities of AGO hidden in cellophane bags are some of the exhibits recovered at the crime scene,” the spokesman stated.

He stated that agents were pursuing the oil thieves while the Intelligence and probe agency had started a probe into the incident.
