Police in Anambra State, Nigeria, have reported that Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Anthony Ogbodo was killed in a car crash.
Yesterday, Tochukwu Ikenga, spokesman for the Anambra State Police Command, released a statement saying that the deceased officer was engaged in an accident involving a motorbike and a shuttle bus the previous Saturday.
Ikenga claimed that the shuttle bus driver who accidentally knocked over the police officer rushed him to the Enugwu Ukwu hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The driver has been detained, and an inquiry into the accident’s proximate and ultimate causes has begun.
This is to dispel rumours circulating online that the police officer died of something other than the official cause of death.
The Officer’s death was unfortunate, and the Command sends its deepest sympathies to his family and friends.
Ikenga claimed that “justice would be swiftly dispensed in the case” thanks to the assurances of Aderemi Adeoye, the commissioner of police.
