Police contest that gunmen in Anambra killed 21 soldiers.
The Anambra State Police Command has refuted reports that gunmen in the state murdered twenty-one troops.
Since Tuesday, there have been rumors circulating on social media claiming that on Monday night, 21 soldiers traveling to Enugu State were apprehended and executed in Onitsha, Anambra State.
However, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, a spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, rejected the allegations in a statement responding to the article on Wednesday, calling it “misleading,” “unfounded,” and “false.”
According to the statement, some online media and national dailies have been spreading a misleading, unsubstantiated, and fraudulent claim headed “Gunmen kill 21 soldiers in Anambra.” The Anambra State Police Command is aware of this.
“The Command would like to declare that the information is false, the work of fiction, and the creation of nefarious individuals.
Additionally, the Command has noted with dismay at the news that the hospital that is supposed to be housing the troops’ corpses and was stated in the report does not actually exist in the state capital of Awka.
“More investigations by the Command revealed that there is no documentation of this incident or any other, but willful actions by dishonest people will incite tension in the state.”
Ikenga went on to say that the Command should not hold back when using pertinent cyber laws against those who are deemed to be deficient in this area.
He went on, “But the Command advises the public to ignore the report.”
