Igbo movement believes that civil war heroes should be honored.
The Igbo-Biafra Nationalists Movement called for justice for the South East on Sunday, describing the Nigeria-Biafra civil war as a horrific crime against the people of the area.
In a statement sent to reporters in Owerri, Imo State, the movement’s leader, Uche Mefor, emphasized that the war’s accomplices must be forced to confess.

Mefor stated that May 30 was set aside as a day of honor for the fallen soldiers, therefore the commemoration of the war heroes remained sacred.
He urged the Igbo people to commemorate the day with prayers and requests.
“May humanity be inspired by the recollections of the Biafra heroes and heroines.” May 30 is a sacred day on which we honor the memory of the Biafran warriors and heroines who lost their lives.
“By standing against the genocidal orgy of violence directed against the people of Biafra, the Igbo-Biafra Nationalists Movement and the Indigenous People of Igbo Nation for Self-Determination are calling on Igbo-Biafrans and the entire South-East region to pay tribute as usual to the memories of our kith and kin who paid the ultimate price for statehood,” the statement stated.
across a statement released last week, the Indigenous People of Biafra’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, announced that May 30 would be a day of sit-at-homes across the five South-East states in remembrance of those who lost their lives during the 1967–1970 civil war.
According to IPOB, “May 30 is set aside each year as our Heroes and Heroines Day, a time to honor those who gave their lives so that we could live—before, during, and after the 1967–1970 war against the Biafran people, as well as any subsequent conflicts that have continued to this day.”
“Biafrans are requested to observe this one-day sit-at-home in homage to the spirits of our deceased heroes who battled for us to be alive today, as a way to honor our heroes and heroines.
On this day, every Biafran living in Biafra land is supposed to sit down at home and consider the peril of the forced union known as Nigeria, which has claimed millions of Biafran lives.
“It is also urged for those Biafrans who are not in Biafra land to honor our heroes by restricting their activities on this day or by observing the sit-at-home” observed on this day.
