Obu Uga can be translated to meaning “Hall of transition” or “Hall of passage”. This means it is a place between two worlds. One passes into another world or one goes out of another world.

Èrì in Igbo mythology is an angel that escorts spirits into this world and out of this world.
When the Eze Nri-elect has gotten his Odudu Eze from the bottom of the Omambala River he takes it to the Obu Uga, modes an images of the angel Èrì, and gives supplication, as he has completed his task and symbolically transcends back into this world as a new person and a new Eze Nri.
