I know most of you will still doubt it, as many believe that, without Christianity in Africa and Igboland, we Ndi Igbo will still be living as we are before, the coming of Christianity. There is what I will like you to understand, civilization is different from religion. South Korea, Japan and China are civilized today despite they didn’t allow any foreign religion in their country. We are not in any way asking any religion to leave our land.
The highest weapon the western world used to destroy Africa is religion. Since they brought it to Africa, especially to ndigbo we are confused to date because people with confusion can not understand themselves anymore. We are now more Christians than those that brought it to us.
It’s very heartbreaking that Africans historically contributed to human civilisation and yet today we remain by far the most backward continent in terms of economic development and standard of living on the planet. Despite that:
1. Mathematics started in Africa (Congo)
2. Oldest University is found in Africa (West Africa, Timbuktu present-day Mali)
3. Farming started in Africa 90,000 years ago
4. Only Africa had pyramids
5. Democracy started in Igboland
Yes, you heard me well on number 5. Democracy started in Igboland. British called it
“RADICAL DEMOCRACY”
But then it’s an egalitarian society,
Where everyone is allowed to air their views, and even women were allowed to speak
More than any tribe in the world. Ndi Igbo understand equity.
Everyman is a king in his house!
Democracy started in Igboland. A system that ensured checks and balances. Every village had their defence system. Igbo ancestors deliberately deviated from the norm of ancient times of having a centralised monarchy. The disadvantage of having a centralised monarchy is that once the head is down, everyone falls. this is what happened to the Benin kingdom. Whereas in the case of Igboland, the British fought on several fronts .they battled Arochukwu, Ekumeku, and much other internal resistance in defiance of anything that looks like imposition such as the women’s war of 1929, etc…
