Why South-East Is Quiet Over Hardship
In response to recent comments made by Professor Usman Yusuf, the former Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), human rights advocate and lawyer Chidi Odinkalu said he had no idea why the South-East region was staying silent about the country’s current economic crisis.
Odinkalu claims that Professor Yusuf isn’t paying attention to what he said.
Professor Yusuf recently stated in an interview on Arise TV, which was also featured on tdpnewsng.com, that the South-East has been silent about the hardships facing the nation and he encouraged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to investigate the cause of the silence.
The previous head of the NHIS acknowledged that silence exists in the North and claimed that it is more lethal there than it is anyplace else in the nation.
Nigerians are suffering, according to Professor Yusuf, who urged President Tinubu to feed the populace before things went out of control.
“I honestly don’t know why the South-East is quiet, unusually quiet,” he remarked. However, the President must inquire. I know I’m from the North; it’s in my blood. More than any other place in the nation, the stillness in the North is deadly. And that’s something the President needs to hear.
“It is more deadly for the North’s people to remain silent than for them to leave, despite the suffering they endure.”
Following the demonstrations against the nation’s economic suffering that started in several areas of the North and South-West, Professor Yusuf made his speech.
“My friend, Prof Usman Yusuf, is asking why South-East Nigeria is not up in a cacophony of postulations over economic hardship in Nigeria,” Chidi Odinkalu stated in response to Professor Yusuf’s remarks. He can’t be a serious man, can he?
