Ohanaeze asks for national support for the N15 trillion Lagos-Calabar coastal road project.
On Sunday, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the highest Igbo socio-cultural organization, praised the 700-kilometer Lagos-Calabar coastal road project, which is expected to cost N15 trillion.

The organization, however, urged Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, and other important figures to concentrate on the project’s positive economic impact on Nigerians rather than getting bogged down in pointless arguments about it, in a statement released by its Secretary-General, Okechukwu Isiguzoro.
Atiku has earlier claimed that the due process requirements were not met in the awarding of the Lagos-Calabar Project.
After analyzing the complex procedures that led to the creation of the 700 km coastal Lagos-Calabar route, Ohanaeze Ndigbo expressed confidence in the project’s significant positive impact on the Nigerian people in a statement titled, “Lagos-Calabar coastal road and the political calculus.”
“A seismic shift is underway in Nigerian politics, reverberating through the corridors of power and capturing the attention of astute observers,” the statement read.
The massive project of building the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road, if successful, has the potential to drastically alter the political landscape and the fortunes of important individuals.
There are many unanswered concerns about the mystery surrounding a coastal expressway that offers enormous economic benefits to the impoverished Nigerians, as Ndigbo, in particular, watch the drama play out.
Ironically, though, this attempt has turned into a nightmare for lawmakers in the opposition, throwing doubt, above all, on Atiku Abubakar’s political aspirations.
The 700-kilometer Lagos-Calabar coastal highway project aims to build a crucial link between Lagos and Cross River.
Before arriving at its target in Cross River, the project would pass through the coastal states of Ogun, Ondo, Delta, Edo, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom.
“Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the foremost Igbo socio-cultural establishment, has painstakingly examined the intricate mechanisms that preceded the establishment of the 700-kilometer Lagos-Calabar coastal road.
The commencement of a massive project is marked by the presidential support, which signals the start of an astounding N15 trillion investment, and the subsequent awarding of contracts to the renowned Hi-Tech Company in accordance with legal procedures.
According to the statement, “opposition circles have sown seeds of trepidation, foreseeing a potential disruption to the political equilibrium,” due to the measured speed of road construction, which is costing N4 billion per kilometer.
The project would be completed in eight years, according to a previous statement made by David Umahi, Minister of Works.
Ohanaeze Ndigbo’s Secretary General emphasized how important it is to maintain the integrity of Minister Umahi’s efforts and shield them from needless interference brought on by people with bad intentions.
As the story progresses, Atiku Abubakar is urged to offer up prayers for President Tinubu and Umahi’s ability to complete the several ongoing road projects that were left over from the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
It further stated, “Umahi’s stewardship heralds a renaissance of infrastructure development fostering economic durability and enhancing the prosperity of all Nigerians, underscored by a presidential mandate for innovative cement technology.”
