FG invites NLC over planned nationwide strike

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) leadership has been invited to meet with Nigeria’s Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong, tomorrow to discuss the NLC’s proposed indefinite strike.
This was announced in a statement released on September 17 in Abuja by Olajide Oshundun, the ministry’s director of press and public relations.

For fear of more economic disruption, the minister has ordered the Department of Trade Unions Services and Industrial Relations to arrange a meeting between the NLC’s leadership and the government.

To preserve industrial harmony, which is crucial to the achievement of the Renewed Hope Agenda, Lalong said the administration of President Bola Tinubu would always “engage the organised labour and respond to its concerns after due consultation and negotiations.”

To prevent the NLC’s two-day strike on September 5th and 6th, the minister reportedly invited the two Labour centres for discussions.

Only the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria showed up to the meeting, while the Nigeria Labour Congress continued its warning strike for another two days.
