Drama in Anambra as attorney requests bail for the alleged abductor of the Anambra LP governor candidate

Judge C.N. Mbonu-Nwenyi of the Ihiala High Court in Nnewi, Anambra State, oversaw a somewhat dramatic scene when the court denied an oral bail request made by Ikenna Obidiegwu Esq., the attorney for Chukwudi Odimegwu, the first accused person currently on trial in connection with the kidnapping of Chief Obiorah Agbasimalo, the Labour Party’s nominee for governor of Anambra State in 2021. The candidate’s whereabouts are still unknown.
Rather, the defense attorney was instructed by the court to draft a formal bail application and submit it to the Ihiala High Court for review.
The two have been remanded in jail detention and are accused of conspiring and kidnapping Agbasimalo, along with other others who are still at large.
Remember that on September 18, 2021, in the Lilu village in the Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, LP governorship candidate Agbasimalo was abducted on his way to an LP campaign event. He has not been discovered as of yet.
PW4, Chikezie Mbadugha, a farmer and resident of Umudim-Nnewi in the Nnewi North Local Government Area, ascended the witness box and provided a thorough description of his knowledge of the case when it was called.
Mbadugha, who specifically testified against the first defendant, Odimegwu, revealed that on September 18, 2021, a fateful day, as they were about to embark on a campaign tour, all the representatives and LP coordinators were summoned to a meeting at his home town of Ezinifite in Nnewi South Local Government Area by High Chief Godwin Agbasimalo, also known as “Oga ndi Oga,” the elder brother of the kidnapped victim and the campaign train’s sponsor.
Mbadugha went on to say that following the meeting, “Oga Ndi Oga” gave the order for everyone driving campaign-branded cars to fill up their gas tanks at a service station in order to be ready for the campaign trip.
When he arrived at the gas station, he claimed to have seen the first defendant, Odimegwu, and the Leader and Coordinator, whom he just recognized as Nwammuo, who gave him and the others N4,000 apiece for gas.
