Since Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, is due to go on trial today, Department of State Services agents have increased security both inside and outside the Federal High Court in Abuja.

As Kanu’s trial continues, DSS agents seize control of the proceedings.
Following Kanu’s release and acquittal by the Court of Appeal in October 2022, the case was placed on hold.
In addition, the appellate court ruled that Nnamdi’s kidnapping from Kenya to Nigeria was unconstitutional and unlawful and overturned the Federal Government’s terrorism-related accusations against him.
But the FG filed an appeal with the highest court against the ruling.
In its ruling on December 15, 2023, the Supreme Court mandated that Kanu’s terrorism-related trial continue.
Since his repatriation from Kenya to Nigeria in June 2021, He has been detained by the DSS.
Journalists, litigants, and court employees were searched at least four checkpoints, beginning on the road leading to the Ministry of Justice, before they could approach the court premises.
