Anambra community wants justice, After a stepson murders a 69-year-old widow.
The death of Ifeoma Ajuluchukwu, a 69-year-old widow and native of the Ojoto village in the Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State, has sparked protests from the local populace.
The dead was allegedly killed by her stepson (name withheld), who was the first child of the deceased’s husband’s first wife.
The demonstrators who stormed the Anambra State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare on Monday revealed the development while they were in protest; however, the exact date of the incidence remains unclear.
They arrived in large numbers, young and old alike, brandishing signs with a variety of inscriptions.
Emeka Nwabunike, the group’s leader, spoke on behalf of the demonstrators, claiming that they had come to voice their complaints and demand justice in the wake of the widow’s claimed horrific murder.
According to Nwabunike, the Ojoto community had heard from all involved parties and carried out their own independent inquiry, following which they discovered that the widow had been “gruesomely murdered.”
He went on to say that “the entire community is distressed about how the widow was sent to her early grave, while the suspect continues to walk freely,” and that the purpose of their demonstration was to seek justice for the slain widow.

He expressed gratitude to Ify Obinabo, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, for his attention and initiative in the situation and gave the assurance that the ministry had the support of the community in obtaining justice for the widow.
“We beseech the commissioner to use her good offices to secure justice for the deceased widow,” he uttered. Her prompt engagement in the case encouraged us to do more independent research.
All parties involved in the case had to be involved, and video footage was examined. Ultimately, it was evident that Mrs. Ifeoma Ajuluchukwu had been killed and that she was in need of justice.
Speaking to the demonstrators, Obinabo praised them for voicing their complaints through the appropriate channels rather than following the road of jungle justice.
She also praised the community’s traditional ruler and the people as a whole for their concern over the issue and the essential actions they have done thus far.
“The ministry has taken far-reaching actions in this regard,” she stated. Under Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s leadership, injustice—especially that which targets women, children, and the less fortunate elements of society—is completely despised and intolerable in the state.
“The slain widow will receive support and justice from the state government once the issue reaches the governor’s desk.
“As soon as we learned of the news, we acted quickly, especially after learning that the suspected criminal had arrested community members who had denounced the act behind their backs due to his power.
“People enforcing laws against others and such rascality are strongly condemned by the Soludo-led administration.” I promise that this will reach the governor’s table and that the governor’s wife will also be informed, and the case will be followed through to the end.
