Ohanaeze schedules discussions for Kanu’s release with the monarchs of Lagos and others.
The Ohanaeze Ndigbo has revealed intentions to hold peace negotiations with powerful Nigerians in an effort to gain the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the beleaguered leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra.

The pan-Igbo socio-political organization stated that its goal is to promote collaboration and forgiveness in the direction of Kanu’s liberation.
The Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu; the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III; and Asari Dokubo are among the important players that Ohanaeze Ndigbo plans to meet with, according to a statement issued by the organization on Thursday.
“Although acknowledging the efforts of well-known Igbo leaders to ensure Kanu’s release, there appears to have been little communication with those who were offended by Kanu’s actions, particularly those associated with President Tinubu.
“To encourage forgiveness and cooperation towards securing Kanu’s freedom, Ohanaeze Ndigbo announces plans for a peace meeting delegation involving key stakeholders such as the Oba of Lagos, Asari Dokubo (our son), and the Sultan of Sokoto,” the statement said, attempting to aid in Kanu’s release.
Isiguzoro emphasized that the organization is grateful for the efforts made by notable Igbo leaders and others to advocate for Kanu’s release following his imprisonment.
He did, however, agree that further outreach and communication with individuals who could have been impacted by Kanu’s conduct were necessary.
The statement went on, “It also promises to make sure Kanu stops promoting content that divides Nigeria and instead pushes for a reorganized Nigeria, after his willingness to hold talks with the Federal Government.”
“It clarifies that no member of Ohanaeze Ndigbo is affiliated with separatist groups and emphasizes a continuous call for Biafra agitators to renounce violence and pursue non-violent avenues for self-determination, allowing security agencies to address criminal elements exploiting the Biafra cause,” Isiguzoro said in response to the question of separatist movements.
The group also issued a warning against anybody attempting to use blackmail or other manipulation to influence its leadership positions in order to prolong their term.
“The constitutional rights of Rivers State in producing the next leadership of the group cannot be obstructed by falsely branding its elected representatives as Biafra agitators,” Isiguzoro continued.
