Truck smashes into residential building in Anambra, causing panic

PUNCH Metro learned that the driver lost control of the car while negotiating the steep route and crashed into the residential structure, destroying several objects, including pillars, a perimeter fence gate, and two exotic automobiles. Fortunately, no one was killed in the event.

According to reports, the driver got into trouble after he disregarded the estate’s chief security officer’s instruction to turn around because heavy-duty trucks were not allowed on the estate because of the topography of the area.

“The driver insisted on continuing with his destination to where the cement would be off-loaded in an unfinished building, he tried to negotiate his way,” said a source who spoke to our correspondent in the estate under the condition of anonymity. “But the weight of the cement forced the vehicle to descend the hill immediately and in the process, it rammed into the residential building, smashing the two cars, perimeter fence gate, wall, and pillars of the house, among others.”

The incident happened at 8 am on that terrible day, according to the landlord, Uche Adoga, a retired civil servant, who stated that his family members were upstairs in the one-story duplex.

Adoga stated, “I became shocked when I heard a loud roar while I was upstairs with my family.

I noticed that people had gathered outside and went into a coma, from which I eventually awoke.

“The vehicle totaled both of my cars—a Venzer jeep and the one I had purchased. The truck crashed into the compound, smashing beyond recognition the wall, pillars, fence gate, and many other objects.

“The driver, who is being held at the 3’3 police station, was reportedly making calls at the time of the incident and attempted to flee, but was restrained by supporters and a few landlords.”

He described how the vehicle was dragged to the police station with the assistance of the landlords, who accused the driver of disobeying their earlier advice not to drive on the estate.

The driver was then transported to the police station where he was being held.

The saddest part is that, despite the fact that we are all human, the driver’s principal has not expressed any concern for the magnitude of the damage or met with me to discuss how to escape the woods since the occurrence. He stated, “He wants to irritate my family and me.”

When reached, CSP Chukwunonso Onunkwo, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the 3’3 Police Station, was not in his seat. However, a senior police officer, who asked to remain anonymous, verified the driver’s incarceration but declined to comment further.
