The immediate distribution of a N100,000 interest-free loan to Abia women entrepreneurs, along with other operators of small and medium-sized businesses in rural communities, has been approved by Abia State Governor Alex Otti.

On Women’s Day, Otti grants Abia women entrepreneurs a N100,000 interest-free loan.
This comes as he claimed that his administration had demonstrated an unparalleled level of respect for women, citing the fact that four of his cabinet members hold extremely sensitive positions and that women make up 17 of the state’s 24 Permanent Secretaries.
In his message of goodwill to the women of Abia on the occasion of International Women’s Day in 2024, Otti declared that his administration will persist in promoting the advancement of women.
“This satisfies our campaign pledge to support our women in starting and growing their enterprises at the local level and contributing to the state’s economic development. Otti stated that a minimum of fifty individuals per ward are anticipated to get N100,000 each.
Otti reiterated his pledge to give more women in the state more power in a letter that was signed by Kazie Uko, his chief press secretary.
Governor Otti addressed the audience on behalf of his administration, stating that it has been intentional in empowering women “through improved budgetary allocation to the various sectors that have direct implications on the welfare and well-being of the women and the girl child as well as appointment of women to strategic positions in government,” in reference to this year’s IWD theme of “Inspire Inclusion.”
“Our administration in Abia State is very gender aware, as seen by the rise in the number of women nominated to the State Executive Council and to government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.
It is noteworthy that women have important roles in the State Executive Council in the areas of health, education, agriculture, and poverty alleviation. Additionally, 17 of the 24 Permanent Secretaries in the state are women. In the state civil service’s history, nothing like this has happened before.
“In a statement released from his office, Governor Otti listed the ways in which his administration has shown its commitment to the Nigeria for Women Project (NFWP), which aims to support better livelihoods for women in specific Abia and Nigerian areas by influencing social norms related to gender equality, promoting social inclusion, and establishing institutional platforms that improve women’s access to critical life, business, and technical skills.”
Governor Otti praised the women for their tenacity and commitment to responsibility in the job and in society at large, in addition to their personal lives. The governor claims that this has happened in spite of the many obstacles that society and nature have placed in their path.
“Epitome of grace, knowledge, beauty and strength, who have achieved so much in different areas of life, globally,” was how the governor characterized Nigerian women.
According to Otti, the world “owes women” a debt of gratitude for their contributions to the advancement of social, political, and economic progress on a worldwide scale.
He expressed gratitude to the women of Abia for their unwavering belief in him and support of his government.
