Some supporters of the pro-Biafra Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) have been detained by police in Anambra State.
Beka Udemefuna (66) and Mr. Amauche Ode (53), two members of the organisation, were arrested, according to a news release distributed to the media.
It said that the police had removed paintings of Biafra leader Chief Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu and the group’s leader, Chief Ralph Uwazurike.

According to the press release issued by BIM-MASSOB’s Senior Special Assistant, Chief Chris Mocha, the group’s plastic seats, of which there were more than 16, were also stolen.
The victims were transferred to the Criminal Investigations Department CID annexe in Awkuzu, and the arrests were reportedly made on Tuesday at the group’s regional office along the Awkuzu-Otuocha route in Ifitedunu, in the Dunukofia council area.
“The members of BIM-MASSOB were seated in the office at Ifitedunu when the heavily armed policemen numbering over five arrived at the office in the evening and shot sporadically into the air,” the statement said in part.
Handcuffed, enlarged photos of Ojukwu and Uwazuruike, and 16 plastic chairs were carried to Awkuzu, Anambra State along with the arrested members.
The group has called for the release of the individuals who were arrested, claiming that its members are completely peaceful and pose no threat to state security.
Tochukwu Ikenga, the state police PPRO and a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), declined to confirm the occurrence but did say “Thank you for the information” when called.
