In Enugu, police detain a car-stealing syndicate
Police officers from the Enugu State Police Command’s Uwani Police Division made the arrests. Our correspondent learned that four allegedly stolen cars and several car keys were also found inside of them.
DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the command’s police public relations officer, verified the occurrence.
“The success came after the operatives mounted operational surveillance after receiving multiple reports of car thefts within the Kenyetta Market axis in Uwani, Enugu,” the speaker stated.
He named Anioko Chukwujekwu, 32, as one of the suspects, claiming that he is the syndicate’s boss.
According to Ndukwe, “He was arrested on March 3, 2024, at approximately noon while attempting to steal a car from the market.” He had several keys that were found on him.
“Three additional suspects were arrested in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, as a result of the suspect’s confessional statements. These suspects are his conspirators, receivers, and sellers of the stolen vehicles.”
He identified them as Nkemdi Idah, 65; Nwoke Sunday, 57; and Ugochukwu Okoh, 41.
“A total of four different Mercedes-Benz models were recovered from them, including two 190 E (ash-colored with registration number SKA 292 AA and red-colored without registration number); one blue-colored C-Class with registration number AGL 512 EY; and a black-colored 230 E (V-boot) with registration number CHR 50 AE,” Ndukwe stated.
“The suspects will be arraigned in court and prosecuted once investigations are concluded,” the speaker continued.
