The suspect was presented to the command’s headquarters in Owerri, the state capital, on Tuesday. Henry Okoye, the police spokesperson, revealed that policemen had discovered the deceased person’s motionless corpse in a gutter at Madumere Street, Christ Road, Owerri, after receiving a distress call.

He said that the dead was with her lover, Nwaneri, the night she was killed, according to the inquiry, and he added that the suspect was purportedly involved in the death.

A forensic pathologist has been tasked with determining the cause of death for the deceased, according to a state police official.

He stated that charges would be brought against the suspect following the inquiry.

According to Okoye, “Owerri Urban Divisional Headquarters personnel mobilized to the scene, recovered the corpse, and deposited it for autopsy following a distress call received from Bishop Silas Anoruo on January 7, 2024, stating that the lifeless body of a young lady was seen inside a gutter in front of his unfinished building at Madumere Street, Christ Road, Owerri.

“Chenyenwa Nnodua was identified as the deceased by preliminary investigation, which also showed that she was last seen on May 1, 2024, very late at night, walking down to the home of her purported lover, Chinenye Nwaneri’m,’ of No. 43, Christ Church Road, Owerri.

“This caused the determined operators to become suspicious and invite Umuodu vigilante group member Chinenye Nwaneri for questioning.

“After being moved to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Chinenye Nwaneri admitted during questioning that he was with the deceased the night before she was discovered dead in a gutter, but he denied that she was his lover.”

The deceased “informed her on 5/02/2024 that she was going to spend the night in the suspect’s house,” the spokesman continued, adding that the deceased’s sister had mentioned that Nwaneri had been her “late sister’s boyfriend for four years.”

Additionally, a vigilante member who was assigned to night duty with Nwaneri said that, while on “foot patrol,” “he saw him at midnight” with the body.

According to Okoye, “competent witnesses volunteered statements to the police, including the deceased’s sister and a vigilante member who was on night guard duty with him.”

The deceased sister revealed that the suspect dated her sister for four years, adding that on May 2, 2024, her sister told her that she would be spending the night at the suspect’s residence.

“The vigilante who was on night duty with the suspect reported that, while on foot patrol along Christ Church Road at midnight, he saw him with the deceased.”

The deceased person’s body has been transferred to a forensic pathologist in order to determine the cause of death, and the investigation is currently underway. In the interim while the investigation is ongoing, the case will be charged in court.

In related news, police have apprehended Onwuhara Nwachuku, who is suspected of fatally stabbing Theophilus Ukwe, 57, with a knife.

According to Okoye, the dead approached the Nwachuku, 27, who had admitted to the crime, on his farm when he was picking his palm fruit, and that’s why the Nwachuku killed the victim.

“In another different development, Imo State Police Command operatives arrested one Onwuhara Nwachukwu,’m’, 27 years old, for fatally stabbing one Theophilus Ukwe,’m’, 57 years old, over a minor dispute,” Okoye stated.

During questioning, the suspect admitted to the crime and claimed that the deceased approached him on his farm while he was picking his palm fruit, causing him to get a serious machete cut on his body that ultimately led to his death. There’s little doubt the guy will get his day in court.

“The Imo State Command’s Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, reassures the public that the command will keep working nonstop to provide the highest level of safety and security for everyone in the state.”
