Ihedioha followers claim that PDP is now dead in Imo.

The Peoples Democratic Party in Imo State has allegedly gone extinct as a result of the resignation of the previous Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, according to supporters and political associates of the former governor of Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha.

Ihedioha followers claim that PDP is now dead in Imo.

Ihedioha’s political allies and members of his “Rebuild Imo” political organization, who also left the PDP, said the party had dissolved in the state at a news conference on Friday in Owerri, the capital of the state.

Ihedioha had said in April that he was leaving the PDP, claiming the group had strayed from the ideals that guided its founding in 1998.

However, the resignation led to a widespread resignation of the party’s leaders and adherents throughout the state.

Former South-East PDP ex-officio member Stanley Ekezie spoke on behalf of the associates, stating that they were waiting on Ihedioha to reveal his future course of action.

He continued by saying that the overwhelming resignation of members following Ihedioha’s departure was a demonstration of complete faith in the former governor’s leadership, whose moral character and “democratic credentials” won over Imo people of all political persuasions.

Ekezie also emphasized that the time had come to work with other well-meaning individuals and organizations to promote democracy and sound governance in the nation, stating that as the party’s crisis persisted, devoted party members and leaders had called on the National Working Committee to bring peace and order back.

He said, “It is also no longer news that Ihedioha cited as his main reasons for leaving the PDP the inability of the party to uphold its own rules and constitution, failure to carry out internal reforms, consistent drift from the ideals upon which the party was founded, and failure to offer credible opposition to the ruling All Progressives Congress in his letter of resignation. After giving the party’s direction some thought, a choice was required.

“Everything was going well for the PDP in the state until some anti-democratic forces decided to put a clog in the party’s progress out of their self-serving desire to disrupt the cohesion and strength of the party in Imo.”

“The PDP was bound for an imminent self-destruct in the state due to the PDP NWC’s grandiose refusal to adhere to due procedure, even as it violated its constitution in handling its business in Imo.

“We call on Imo citizens to join hands as we embark on this engaging democratic journey, sharing the same ideals and aspirations for our beloved Imo.”

Ikenna Onuoha, a spokesman for the PDP’s national secretary, responded to the news by saying that the party was unaffected by Ihedioha’s departure in any way.

According to Onuoha, the PDP in Imo State had moved on and was operating at full capacity throughout all of its organs.

“The PDP is intact and headed in the right direction,” he declared. The few people that just quit don’t bother us.”
