While under police arrest, an Anambra lady loses her pregnancy

Awka—Mrs. Mmesoma Odili, a pregnant woman from Umuosiegbo village, Umunya in the Oyi local government area of Anambra State, is distraught after discovering she is not carrying a child while being held for eight days at the Zone 13 Police Headquarters in Ukpo, Anambra State.

It was said that due to a land dispute in the area, the police were unable to apprehend Mmesoma’s spouse and had to arrest her.

Mr. Jude Ikeanyionwu, an indigenous of the town, said the conflict has ripped the area apart and urged Professor Chukwuma Soludo, the state governor, and other state stakeholders to step in before more lives are lost in this concerning circumstance.

Ikeanyionwu stated: “Mesoma’s husband is against some of our elders’ unlawful attempt to sell our communal land. He is also a member of the vigilante group in the village.

“The men from Zone 13 Police arrived to apprehend people who oppose the sale of our land, which we had divided among the several families. When they were unable to locate Mmesoma’s husband, they took custody of his expectant wife.

While she was detained for eight daysin Anambra, she miscarried and lost her three-month pregnant during that time. She was on the verge of death in custody and the cops had to let her go.

As a result of the police from Abuja persecuting those who wish to sell our land by force, all the men in the village are afraid to sleep in their homes for fear of being arrested.

Since we don’t have any other land, it was decided to divide the sizable area among the many families, which has been done. Therefore, it is unexpected that my uncle, the kindred chairman, pushed on selling the land when neither our children nor we have any other land to touch.
