The FUTO student was slain on Thursday night after an incident with the suspect, according to a statement released in Owerri, the state capital, on Friday by Henry Okoye, the spokesperson for the command.

According to Okoye, the IMSU undergraduate was taken into custody by command personnel after making a distress call.

He disclosed that the command will arraign the suspect after the investigation was over.

Okoye refuted the rumors circulating that the Fulani herdsman fatally stabbed the FUTO undergraduate.

“An alleged 300-level student of Imo State University (IMSU) Owerri named Francis Marvellous’m’, 21 years old, who is from Ehime Mbano LGA of Imo State, has been arrested by Imo State Police Command personnel for allegedly stabbing Chinagorom Marvellous Kingsley’m’, 22 years old, to death. Chinagorom is a final-year student at the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) and a member of the University’s Man O’ War Unit.

“The culprit was nearly murdered at the scene by an enraged mob, but the arrest was the result of a rapid response to a distress call received by police operatives on convoy patrol from the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of FUTO, retired DSP Patrick Egwu.

“The victim’s body was found and taken to the Federal Medical Centre Owerri, where it was determined he was deceased and placed in the mortuary.

During questioning, the suspect admitted to the crime and confessed to having a violent dispute with university Man O’ War Unit staff on March 29, 2024, at approximately 2200 hours. During this argument, he pulled out a knife that he had carefully hidden in his pants and fatally stabbed the victim. Three other people who were with him throughout the fight were mentioned by him. Among them are Prince, his brother Francis Promise, and a man who goes by the name Soji.

“Everything is being done to apprehend the individuals who are still at large and determine their connection to the crime. After the State Criminal Investigation Department has finished a thorough investigation, the suspect(s) will be arraigned in court.

Another student, whose identity was not yet known, also perished in the tragedy, according to an eyewitness who spoke with our correspondent.

Students began to run and leap from their dorms as policemen began to use tear gas canisters. Regretfully, a pupil with asthma passed away. Another student was sent to the Federal Medical Center in Owerri after breaking her wrist and leg. There were other injuries as well,” he stated.
