A five-story building that was under construction collapsed in Basden Street, Fegge, in the commercial metropolis of Onitsha, Anambra State, possibly trapping an undetermined number of people.

A five-story building in Anambra collapsed, trapping many people.
It was learned that some construction workers were on the last floor when the building, which was intended to be used for commercial reasons when completed, fell in the early hours of Sunday.
In order to start clearing the debris and maybe performing any necessary victim rescue operations, an excavator was sent over right away.
Although the cause of the collapse is yet unknown, rescue efforts at the scene are still ongoing, according to a source close to the scene as of Sunday, when this report was filed. One person has been rescued.
The state police spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, could not be reached for confirmation, therefore facts of the incident remain hazy.
As of the time this report was filed, he was not returning calls.
Chinyere Nworah, the public relations officer for the Anambra State Emergency Management Agency, has not yet returned calls seeking comment.
