Enugu holds LG election Oct 5

The state’s local government election is scheduled for Saturday, October 5, 2024, according to the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission.

This was declared in a statement signed by commission chairman Prof. Christian Ngwu and released on Sunday.

All state-registered political parties were advised to adhere to the deadline in the announcement.

It further stated that information on election norms and other matters may be obtained at the commission’s Independence Layout, Enugu, headquarters.

“All registered political parties and the general public are now notified by the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission that the state’s local government election will take place on Saturday, October 5, 2024.

The announcement said, “Election guidelines and other details can be collected from the State Independent Electoral Commission headquarters at Independence Layout.”

According to The PUNCH, the commission moved the election that was originally scheduled for February 24, 2024, in response to a court order requiring it to modify its initial schedule and guidelines that were published in the Enugu State official gazette on September 26, 2023.

“The postponement followed the ruling of Justice C. O. Ajah of the State High Court in the Action Alliance v. State Independent Electoral Commission case, suit number. E/682/2023.

The Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission has been directed to amend the guidelines and timeline it initially published in the State official gazette on September 26, 2023, in the following manner.

Former ENSIEC chairman Mike Ajogu has stated, “The State Local Government Election 2024 originally scheduled for February 24 has been shifted to October 5, 2024.”
