Enugu government praises Tinubu and the EFCC for recovering 14 assets.

Peter Mba, the governor of Enugu State, praised President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s restoration of 14 opulent properties to his state.

On Wednesday, Ola Olukoyede, the chairman of the EFCC, gave Mba 14 properties that had been forfeited to the federal government but had now been given back to the Enugu State government and people.

“Those assets were forfeited to the Federal Government; and this brings me to another gratitude that I want to convey here today,” Mba stated in her speech during the asset handover.

“I would want to express my gratitude for the significant role that President His Excellency Bola Tinubu has played. We wouldn’t be here today if he hadn’t responded to our call to return these assets to the people and government of Enugu State so quickly and pro-actively.

“Therefore, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to him for agreeing to our request that these assets that were forfeited to the Federal Government be returned to Enugu State.”

In addition, he applauded Olukoyede’s efforts to fortify the EFCC as an institution and warned against attempts by some people to divert the commission’s attention.

“I won’t conclude my statement without praising the chairman of the EFCC for his efforts to fortify this crucial organization. It’s critical that we avoid undermining our institutions.

“Everything we accomplish in government is temporary. Thus, I would want to thank him for his efforts to make sure that the EFCC, a crucial organization, is reinforced. The governor said, “Thank you so much for all of the fantastic work you and your team are doing, and especially for the effort that you have put in to make today a reality.”

Speaking ahead of the handover ceremony, the head of the EFCC revealed that the forfeiture process began in 2007. He also noted that the occasion highlighted the positive working relationship that exists between the federal government and the states.

Olukoyede declared, “What we are seeing today is evidence of the symbiotic relationship that the federal government and the state governments ought to have.”

The main purpose of our gathering today is to return to the people of Enugu State the properties that were taken from them and forfeited to the federal government. It demonstrates that Nigerian government is feasible. As we can see here today, our people deserve to reap the rewards of sound administration.

He continued, saying: “If you look at the history of this specific matter, it takes us back to the beginning of the prosecution in 2007.”

We are so looking at around 17 years of the matter’s history. The Enugu State government revoked the titles to quite a few of the properties, but the EFCC has been administering those assets ever since some of them were eventually forfeited.

“The official transfer of the properties to the people of Enugu State through His Excellency, Dr. Peter Mba, is what we are witnessing here today.”
