Enugu begins construction of five-star hotel

On Saturday, the governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, broke ground on the building of a five-star hotel with an international convention center in the state capital.

The governor visited the shuttered, 5,000-seat Enugu International Conference Centre during the groundbreaking ceremony. His administration is currently finishing it up and bringing it up to code.

In his speech, the governor stated that the five-star establishment aligned with his administration’s goal of making Enugu the go-to place for business, investment, tourism, and leisure. He called to it as an investment facilitator.

Additionally, he claimed that the hotel facilities will turn the state into the conference hub of Africa and boost the state’s economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion in four to eight years.

“All we are doing here today is making the connections.” Remember that we told Ndi Enugu that our goal is to establish Enugu State as the top location for travel, business, investment, residence, and leisure?

We are aware that certain conditions must be met in order to genuinely position your state as the top travel destination. We also know that there are important enablers in place for the international conference center to be appealing.

“Without enough keys, you cannot talk about making the most of your 5,000-capacity meeting center. Where are the keys, asks anyone planning to conduct a conference with five thousand attendees? They would want to see at least 10,000 keys because, as they are coming, they most likely have friends and family with them.

Beyond the international airport, which we expect to operationalize very soon, “again, if we are looking at attracting three million guests as tourists annually, the next question even for the airlines that will be operating here is a five-star hotel where they can accommodate their crews.”

The governor declared that his goal was to establish Enugu as the continent of Africa’s conference capital.

Therefore, Enugu should be mentioned before Kigali or Cape Town while discussing conference cities in South Africa. We are merely getting closer to that dream with what we are doing today,” he said.

The governor declared that plans had been established to fulfill its obligation to the contractors and that there would be no room for changes in budget or delays in schedule.

“The contractor has guaranteed that this project would be completed in 11 months. In order to start this project, we want to visit this location by April of the following year. We hope that the International Conference Center, where work is already underway, will be completed in a few months, so we will be monitoring them and have assurances that they will work day and night.

He emphasized, “We want to maximize the conference center and we have been assured that there won’t be any variation or time overrun.”

Gerald Otiji, the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, stated that the hotel had become essential, adding that in addition to the main conference center, which can accommodate over 5,000 people, there are additional adjacent facilities that can accommodate over a thousand people.

Adibe Njoku, the project consultant, predicted that the hotel would control the meeting center.

According to him, the hotel has 335 rooms total—224 single rooms, 64 business suites, 25 diplomatic suites, two presidential suites, and all the other amenities needed to run a five-star establishment.

Speaking at the event as well, Henry Li, the Managing Director of China Communications Construction Company, promised to use the organization’s knowledge, experience, and strong dedication to excellence to the project.
