At Azikiwe Stadium, night matches begin as Enugu government launches the Coal City Marathon.
The Coal City Marathon Sport Festival is scheduled to take place on May 4th in Enugu State, as part of the government’s initiative to encourage physical health and athletic culture in the region.

He said, “Nightlife in Enugu state is back and we are elated about that,” after describing how the stadium hosted its first night game in many years last week.
The state has already started hosting night games at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, according to Barr. Llyod Ekweremadu, Commissioner for Youth and Sports, who made the announcement in Enugu on Monday. He claimed that this was made possible by the governor’s enormous security sector advancements, which have made the state the safest in the nation.
The commissioner encouraged sports enthusiasts to take advantage of the opportunity by signing up for the sports festival, regardless of whether they are professional or amateur athletes, as it was intended to revive the spirit of the “huge sporting culture” the state is known for. The commissioner said the half marathon would travel through the city and parks.
He revealed that participants would have the opportunity to win a variety of prizes, and that the winners, both male and female, would receive a million naira each, while the runners-up in both categories would receive a total of 500,000 and 300,000 naira, respectively.
The commissioner emphasized that Enugu was becoming as the area’s top sports tourist destination and noted that there will be consolation rewards.
The half marathon will travel across the entire city. We would like to extend an invitation to all sports enthusiasts, irrespective of their experience level in long-distance running. You may be a beginner or an elite marathoner, or you may simply wish to push yourself to the limit and run.
Therefore, it would be beneficial for our folks to register.
He said, “Registration is now open, and the website for people outside the state will soon be up.”
Ekweremadu added that because Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium is available and has been equipped with contemporary amenities, Rangers Football Club would be playing night matches against rival clubs.
He said that the state’s enhanced security circumstances, which have already established the state as the most tranquil and safe state in the federation, also made this possible.
“We are pleased that the Ball Ogbe finals could be held in the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium. To test out our facilities, it was the first night game we had played at the stadium in a number of years. We are grateful to the governor for his cooperation in getting Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium remodeled and modernized.
