Anambra Revenue Service and CITN increase tax awareness
The Anambra State Internal Revenue Service management, in partnership with the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, held a one-day interactive session on tax awareness and enlightenment on Tuesday in an effort to further the conversation about these topics in the state.

The “joint tax education and enlightenment programme” took place in the Bon-Hotels Smith City, the capital of Awka, Anambra State.
“Formalizing the Informal Sector: The Economic Benefits” was the program’s main focus.
The primary paper presenter at the event, Nze Sullivan Nwankpo, a former Special Advisor on Technical Matters to former President Goodluck Jonathan, examined the official and informal sectors’ operations in relation to the state of the economy.
Along with discussing the difficulties in complying with tax laws and the advantages of formalization, Nwankpo offered insightful recommendations and tactics about the steps the AiRS would take to successfully formalize the unorganized sector.
Among the tactics he mentioned were “simplifying registration procedures and promoting entrepreneurs.” Offer tax benefits and breaks while streamlining the tax code. Raise awareness about taxes and offer assistance services.
The following are other ones: “Among others, targeted incentives, labor laws and corporate social responsibility, tax mediation.”
Dr. Greg Ezeilo, the Chairman/Chief Executive of the Anambra State Internal Revenue Service, had earlier said in his introductory comments that paying taxes is a legal requirement for all citizens.
Ezeilo went on to say that the tax enlightenment initiative was a result of the AiRS, which was led by him, taking the audacious decision to start formalizing the informal sector.
Mrs. Oyeka Amara, Senior Special Assistant to the State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, on IGR Technical, also addressed the audience as one of the discussants. She spoke about streamlining the tax registration process and emphasized the technological contributions of the AiRS Solution provider in ensuring that the informal sector is being taxed electronically.
