Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State provided free antenatal and delivery services for all pregnant women at government hospitals and health centres.
Soludo gave the order at Nnobi General Hospital in Idemili South local government area during the initiative’s launch to mitigate the gasoline subsidy reduction. The governor says the free services will continue as long as he leads Anambra State.
He encouraged Anambra communities to contribute their quota, noting that the government only controls two percent of Anambra revenues and private people control ninety-eight percent.
Dr. Afam Obidike, the Commissioner for Health, said 500 state-employed health workers have been trained to safeguard Anambrans’ good health.
Obidike said Nnobi General Hospital has received some doctors, nurses, and haematology lab attendants for effective healthcare. He said the project aimed to lower maternal/infant mortality. Obidike added that Governor Soludo funded prenatal and delivery services.
