An AK-47 weapon with two magazines full of 50 rounds of ammunition has been found, according to the Anambra State Police Command, near the kidnapper’s hiding place in the Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State, close to the Awgbu community.

This was revealed in a statement released on Monday by DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the spokesman for the state police. He also mentioned that the weapon was quickly made safe and placed under custody for additional inquiry.
Ikenga said that activities were conducted around the nearby bushes by combined security operatives who were pursuing the alleged kidnappers.
“On Friday, March 8, 2024, at Awgbu in Orumba North LGA, the security operatives combed the bushes after smashing a notorious kidnapping gang,” he stated. The search for the kidnappers who fled the site of the gunfight has been stepped up by the agents.
According to PUNCH Online, Anambra State Police Command agents stopped a kidnapping gang on Friday while out on patrol and freed four men who had previously been taken hostage by the “dare-devil kidnappers.”
After a gunfight with security personnel, the kidnappers fled the site and were carrying their captives elsewhere before they were apprehended.
According to Ikenga, who made the announcement, the kidnappers were stopped by police officers on patrol in Orumba North Local Government Area‘s Amagu-Awgbu Road. They were en route to a point of escape from the state when the police officers stopped them.
He declared, “Police operations have stepped up their search for the kidnappers who managed to flee from the site of the gunfight after a well-known kidnapping gang was destroyed on the evening of Friday, March 8, 2024, at Awgbu in Orumba North LGA.
“On Saturday morning, while police and the neighborhood vigilante searched the nearby bushes, they found a loaded AK-47 rifle with two magazines that held fifty rounds of 7.62mm ammo. The weapon was quickly secured and placed under custody for additional examination.
“CP Aderemi Adeoye, the Commissioner of Police, commended the combined team for their diligence and pledged to provide rewards in recognition of their dedication to public safety.
“In the meantime, the Commissioner of Police has directed that the case be handled by the command’s Special Anti-Kidnapping Unit at Awkuzu for a thorough investigation.”
He continued by saying that the unit’s commander had promised that all efforts would be made to bring the kidnapping suspects to justice.
He said, “In the interim, all four of the male victims who were freed from the kidnappers last Friday have been reunited with their happy families.”
The state command said on March 9 that it had stopped a kidnapping ring and freed four men who had previously been taken hostage by the “dare-devil kidnappers.” Anambra police intercepted gang kidnapping and rescued victims.
According to PUNCH Online, kidnapping incidents have been occurring often in the state and other regions of Nigeria.
