Describing his return to the National Assembly a miracle, considering the opposition he faced during and after the 2023 elections, Ogene said only quality representation would bring positive and lasting impacts to members of his constituency through the National Assembly.

He made these remarks during a Thanksgiving ceremony at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, Odekpe, in the Ogbaru Local Government Area. He also talked about how, despite being essentially irrelevant politically, he was called to enter the campaign the previous year.

“I feel fulfilled, coming back to the same people who gave me support, not once, but twice during the last general elections,” Ogene said in a statement to press following the service.

As you remember, we won the general elections in Nigeria a year ago, but some of my rivals chose to force a rerun in a number of the units. However, we prevailed in the rerun that was held on April 15 of last year, praise be to God.

“They proceeded to the judiciary because they were still unsatisfied, which is within their rights, but we prevailed in the tribunal and the Appeal Court following those procedures. Thus, it is only fitting that you return, if only to give thanks to God and the people.

“Recently, I have made numerous social and infrastructure reforms. Since my people are the ones who utilize the state and federal highways, I am among those who disbelieve in them. Many people traveling to the south-east of Imo State, as well as the south-south of Akwa Ibom and Cross River states, pass by the Onitsha/Atani/Ekwusigo road, which goes through Ogbaru.

Therefore, both residents of Ogbaru and those who go through Ogbaru are impacted if the route is impassable. Therefore, we shall always take whatever action is necessary to ensure that the road is at least usable prior to the involvement of the state and federal governments.

That explains why we had to step in on that road. We are doing multiple further initiatives. Free JAMB and WAEC forms were provided to some students in the previous one, and we are now launching a scholarship program with 20 undergraduate university students that will continue in the future. We will continue to expand as the year progresses and cover their education until they graduate.

Ogene stated, “We have taken some legislative steps by raising it as a motion and then the Federal Ministries of Works and Budget were mandated” in reference to the significant Ogwuikpele/Osamala road project. Yet as you are aware, the budgeting procedure takes nearly a full year. By the time the motion was made, the 2024 budget was practically ready.

Speaking on the LP platform, Prof. Sunday Nnamchi, a member of the House of Representatives representing Enugu East/Isi-Uzo federal constituency, praised the Ogbaru people for granting Ogene the mandate to represent them.

Nnamchi, speaking on behalf of House Speaker Dr. Abbas Tujudeen, referred to Ogene as the “best 11.”

“Ogene is our caucus leader; he is both an experienced and capable hand,” he stated. He has the ability to guide us to Eldorado.

The Labor Party is opposed, although as you can see, we don’t have a large number of members. Both bridges and oasis are destroyed by us. Our party is that. Our supporters are content with us. Labour is not a party, but a movement of the people.

“There is absolutely no impact on LP’s future. From nothing at all, we have come a long way. With this platform for widespread support, the possibilities are endless.

Nnamchi stated, “We are supportive of the national executive,” in response to the turmoil roiling the party. In addition to being encouraging, we believe all of things are a part of party politics; you always see a few tricks from time to time, from people inside or outside the party.

Among the dignitaries in attendance were Chief Valentine Ozigbo, the PDP’s nominee for governor of Anambra State in 2021, and Senator Tony Nwoye, who represents the Anambra North senatorial district in Enugu State.
