Another victim of domestic violence in Ezinifite, Aguata local government area of the state, Chidiebere Otenyi was saved by the Anambra State Government through the Ministry of Women and Social Welfare.

A 19-year-old house girl is brutalized and demoted to primary 3 by an Amambra woman.

The woman received assistance after a whistleblower alerted Commissioner Mrs. Ify Obinabo to her predicament.

Reacting at her Awka office following the girl’s rescue by the ministry-sent team, Obinabo, incensed over the heinous deed, swore to deal with Mrs. Martha Umenweke, the offender.

The degree of the girl’s injuries infuriated Obinabo, who said that the offender would not escape punishment since she had the intention of causing harm and suffering to another person.

The victim, Chidiebere Otenyi, a 19-year-old from Nkanu, Enugu State, said that Martha, her madam, had accused her of stealing her 25,000 naira.

Chidiebere, who was still in agony when she was rescued, claimed to have lived with Martha for a year and a half, but that she was brutally punished for every minor offense, particularly starvation.

Subsequent investigation revealed that the 19-year-old was still enrolled in primary 3.

She said that when she arrived, her employer demoted her.

Mrs. Martha Umenweke, a late-sixties woman, stated that Chidiebere had stolen her money, which is why she had beaten her ward.

During the rescue, it was also learned that Martha had an alibi in Mr. David, who had bound the girl’s wrists and legs after she had been battered.

The Children, Sexual and Gender Based Violence Magistrate court in Awka has received the case from the police for additional questioning and prosecution.
