Killing in Enugu Barracks: Army denies recruit of Boko Haram members who have repented

The Nigerian Army has vehemently stated that it never welcomed back Boko Haram members into its ranks, claiming that a social media story claiming otherwise was the product of mischief.

The announcement came from the Army in response to rumors that a Boko Haram terrorist had reportedly confessed, removed himself from the force, and brutally killed his female lover.

The announcement was made in a statement headlined “Re: Repentant Boko Haram Member Enlisted into Nigerian Army Slits Woman’s Throat in Enugu Barracks, Hides Corpse,” by Major Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations.

It says, “The Nigerian Army (NA) has been made aware of an online media article titled, “Repented Boko Haram Member Enlisted into Nigerian Army slashes Woman’s neck at Enugu Barracks, Hides Corpse,” which was published on April 13, 2024.

As terrible as it is that a young woman died at the hands of a guy she was having an affair with, the event should not be used to support the absurd theory that a contrite Boko Haram member who had been enlisted in the Nigerian Army was responsible for the horrific deed.

Therefore, it is important to address the accusation that the media implied.

“The NA has never recruited former or current members of Boko Haram to its ranks, nor will it ever do so.

Nonetheless, the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) was recognized for its moral and patriotic achievements in combating terrorism and insurgency in the Northeast.

Such CJTF personnel have to have demonstrated devotion, loyalty, and commitment to the country and the service.

“On Thursday, April 11, 2024, Miss Hauwakulu Tabra was brutally murdered by Private Adamu Muhammad. Her body was found inside the barracks on Friday, April 12, 2024. It was a tragic incident.”

“According to preliminary investigations, the aforementioned soldier killed Hauwakulu Tabra. He is currently being held while additional inquiries are conducted to determine the reason behind his acts.

The Nigerian Army sincerely regrets the loss of Miss Hauwakulu Tabra and states unequivocally that it has never welcomed back Boko Haram fighters who have repented, despite what has been cleverly implied.

“The NA will not tolerate any unethical behavior or indiscipline among its members, so the public can be confident that justice will be served.”
