Delta police kill one, arrest another for Keke rider murder.

Following the murder of a Keke rider, Delta State Police Command officers killed one armed robbery suspect in a gun duel.

Mr. Bright Edafe, the Police Public Relations Officer of the state command, confirmed this information in a statement and said that another suspect had been apprehended with gunshot wounds in connection with the murder.

The statement read: “On January 16, 2023, at 1700 hours, the DPO of the Owvian Aladja Police station, Aliyu Shaba, got a distress call indicating that a male corpse had been discovered on the motorway at Ujevwu Junction in Udu LGA.

“Based on this information, he dispatched investigators to the scene where the body of Efe Peter, 26, a local of the Egiegi community, who was shot by armed bandits who stole his tricycle, was found.

“The body was evacuated and transported to the mortuary. The same day, a good-natured individual reported to the station that the deceased was the rider of his trike, which is equipped with a tracking device.

“Based on this information, the operatives again sprang into action, followed and identified the tricycle on Warri/Sapele Road near Mercy City Church, when the bandits opened fire in an attempt to flee and the police retaliated accordingly.

“In the ensuing gun battle, one of the suspects was neutralised, while the other, who suffered a major bullet wound, was apprehended.

“He confessed to the murder of the victim and identified his other gang members as one Kparobo’m,’ Smally Macaiver’m, and progress’m, all of whom resided in Ekpan.

“A cut-to-size, locally made single-barreled firearm, one cartridge, and two spent cartridges were seized while the injured suspect was sent to the hospital, where he eventually died while receiving treatment.”

“Efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining gang members.”
